Subject: Police use of Wanstead Flats for 2012 Games FAQ
Dear Madam / Sir,

RE: Police use of Wanstead Flats for 2012 Games

Could you be so kind and provide information on the planning process / public consultation for the above, including the exact wording for the proposed change to the Epping Forest Act.

16th of July 2010   ::  Reply to email by Paul Thomson, Superindendent of Epping Forest

Thank you for your email of 15th July addressed to the City of London concerning the Metropolitan Police proposals for Wanstead Flats.

The publicity to date regarding the development has not been formally released by either the Police or the City of London.  It has always been the intention of the Metropolitan Police and the City of London to undertake a full public consultation with local residents and community groups regarding this proposal.  A meaningful consultation was always dependent on information regarding the preferred legislative pathway which has only very recently been agreed.

Letters inviting residents to consultation meetings at local venues will be sent shortly detailing venues that will be open together with proposed dates.  The Police accompanied by City of London Officers will also be meeting with local community groups at times yet to be arranged.

A separate consultation process on the legislative mechanism and proposed wording, led by the Home Office, will hopefully be run alongside these meetings.  No detail on the clause is available at present.

The Muster, Briefing and Deployment Centre will be subject to normal Planning requirements and will be heard by the London Borough of Redbridge, who given the location are likely to consult with the London Borough of Newham.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to raise your concerns with the Conservators of Epping Forest.
