Apart from the serious environmental considerations one wonders if the site was chosen as being suitable for a Met Police helicopter landing point in the event of an emergency - security or otherwise. The impact on local travel will be considerable as the police have been given special powers that enable them to prioritise Olympic Traffic. With police using Aldersbrook Road and the Green Man roundabout to reach Stratford and with the Central Line already operating at maximum capacity the outlook is grim. However, we should appreciate the nightmare the whole operation will be for the police and perhaps criticise The Olympics C'tee and TfL for their lack of forward planning.

Note also the leaflet refers to traffic departing north, not arriving. So, we will have lorries and minibuses thundering down Woodgrange Road to add to the Hovis and National Express. And they don't need an act of parliament to land a helicopter on the Flats, air ambulances put down on the football pitches.

I do not think this was a last minute discovery. How can they possibly have put in a successful Olympic bid without detailed information on security? It is more a matter of timing, esp around the general election, they didn't want to risk an appeal.
