A planning application to enable the Metropolitan Police to base policing operations during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games was submitted on 16 November 2010 to the London Borough of Redbridge, it has the reference number 2643/10.


In summary, a large area of Wanstead flats will be enclosed by 3.4m high fencing (11ft) and become a round the clock meeting and transportation hub for several thousand police officers, vehicles, police horses and dogs, command and control facilities and all the logistical support services that such an encampment implies.
